Mitchell Custom Machinery
Machines designed and built to meet your needs
Do you have a need for a machine to do a special task? Mitchell Inc. can help. We can engineer and build a custom machine to handle larger or smaller parts than our standard machines. We can also build machines to do a special task that you need to perform. We have built custom machines from small inexpensive machines to large automated ones to perform multiple tasks on a part. We have incorporated cutting, grinding and trimming with inspection, laser engraving, robotic loading / unloading, secondary scarf cuts in addition to the main operation etc. Contact Mitchell to discuss your project.
Large Diameter rubber grinder and knife trimmer.
Specially designed and built for a company to manufacture rubber stopples with a thick fabric reinforced base. Used in the oil and pipeline industries.
The grinder is able to grind from 4" all the way up to 48" diameter. The angle of grind is manually adjustable. The operator touch screen is used to determine feeds, speeds, grind depth and number of passes to complete the part.
The large diameter trimmer Knife cuts the same family of parts to produce stopples from 2" up to 32". It uses a single specially designed solid carbide knife blade made by Mitchell to plunge cut the fabric reinforced rubber stopple to produce various size parts.
Robotic trim and laser marking cell.
Custom robotic trimmer cell with in and out part conveyors, part flip, shuttle, robotic load and unload, robotic knife trim, and laser engraving of part numbers etc. This machine utilizes an inverted spindle to aid in scrap management, Keyence laser marker and twin 6 axis robots for loading and trimming of parts. In this case a stamped steel part with rubber molded to it to produce an automotive transmission seal.
Automated Twin Head Trimmer / Scarf Cutter.
Custom designed twin headed trimmer with secondary station to perform a scarf cut. This was a dedicated machine to cut to height, chamfer and put a scarf cut through one wall of a family of cone shaped seals used in the oil industry. This machine replaced the labor intensive process of manually trimming, sanding and individually cutting the seals. Greatly increasing quality and output of product. All with less needed labor. Taking the processing time from approximatly 1 minute down to 12 seconds. And with the added vibratory bowl feeder this machine doesn't even take breaks!
Small Scarf Cut Machine
Not all custom machines are expensive or complicated. This client needed a simple machine to make a diagonal cut through 1 wall of a seal. We designed a low cost machine with interchangeable tooling that uses an inexpensive carbide coated utility blade. The angle is manually adjustable and uses a low cost digital protractor to set the angle. Blade positions speeds etc. are set on a small touch screen HMI.
